Denim in Summer

I love a great maxi dress. I want to wear them all the time. Sometimes, I want to dress them up...other times I want to keep it casual. Denim is an all year round casual fabric, and I love how it makes these dresses look less formal, but still chic. In this post, I'm showing 2 ways to style a maxi dress with denim pieces. First up, the denim vest...

I love the contrast in colors with this bright/colorful dress and this light denim vest. I chose light denim to off-set the deep navy background of the maxi. It works! The vest is slightly distressed (stonewashed) too, giving it a little extra detail. For all my curvy girls that are *blessed* in the chest area- it's perfectly fine to wear your vest open! I prefer mine open, allowing my dress to take center stage! If you have ever struggled with making denim work in the past, this is an easy way to introduce it to your summer wardrobe, or any season really.

Styling Tip: Don't have a denim vest? Make one by cutting the sleeves of an old denim jacket hanging around in your closet. Save even more money by thrifting a jacket to refresh.

Next up, the denim jacket.

Oh. Em.Gee. I freaking love this jacket. Doesn't it look cute with this maxi? I chose dark denim with this look. Denim jackets are a perfect tailoring piece for any outfit. This look is great for a night on the town with friends, or date night to the movies. I finished the look with a great pair of stilettos, but could have easily worn this with a flat sandal. The choice is yours! Get your jackets out and start re-inventing your wardrobe!

Here's a couple extra looks of this photo shoot.

Have a great night!
