THE CARMEL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA IS COMING BACK TO THE PALLADIUM and I couldn’t be more excited!

I'll never turn down the opportunity to hear great music. Most of you do not know this, but I played the viola in an orchestra for roughly seven years. I can get lost in the strings section of ANY composition. It feels like home to step into the Palladium again, though it’s best for everyone’s ears that I stay seated off-stage with no instrument in sight. You’re welcome.

This year, we celebrate the 43rd season of Carmel’s hometown symphony sharing their talents with the community. On October 13th, Music Director, Janna Hymes and the orchestra will deliver an orchestral showcase of Janna’s favorite works by various composers. To get you ready for opening night, I composed a list of tips guaranteed to help you have the BEST experience.

Tips for making the most of the symphony

  • Arrive early: Though parking is ample, I still say arrive early. Grab a drink at the bar, mingle with your friends and familiarize yourself with the bathrooms and exits. Also, an hour before each show the CSO hosts a “Meet the Music” pre-talk where you can learn more about the composer and their work.

  • Grab a drink and take it back to your seat: YES, this is allowed. There aren’t many days that end bad when you are ending them with wine and Mozart.

  • Clap when you LOVE what you hear. The musicians appreciate it very much.

  • Bring your kids to the Holiday Spectacular. A very special “guest” just may come out to say hello! Yes, kids are encouraged to come see the CSO!

  • Relax….you’re at the Symphony! Take in the gorgeous space! Look below for a few behind the scenes photos of my latest shoot inside of the Palladium.

What to Wear

According to the CSO website, you'll see people wearing anything from jeans to gowns. I personally feel there really is no reason to head to the Symphony in casual attire. You are walking into a stunning concert hall, filled with remarkable architecture and an ambiance to match. As a stylist, I suggest cocktail attire at a minimum, though I tend to air more on the GLAM side. Yes, the Symphony is for everyone-from casual to full on drama. I choose DRAMA. BRING ON THE EXTRAVAGANCE!

My Look:

An evening gown with versatile sleeves. Though they were not designed to be worn in a bow, I took the sleeves and tied them for another option when wearing this evening gown. STYLING TIP: Find a way to take an item in your evening wear collection and restyle it. Evening wear can be very expensive, so this will help you save on the wallet and still look fabulous!

My shoes are stilettos from Sam Edelman. By far, his heels have been the most comfortable for me. Shop a similar pair here. For accessories, I kept it simple- earrings only. This pair is vintage from my Grandmother’s stash. I would suggest any sparkly studs or dangles for this look. Charming Charlie is a great place to find earrings in any color you’ll need!

This beautiful gown is unfortunately sold out, but I found a similar one that will give you the same vibes. Shop a similar gown here. Will you be visiting the CSO this season? Youth tickets start at only $5, so there is no reason to miss this great orchestra. I’ll be there opening night! Hope you will too!
