All Eye Doctors Aren't Created Equal: MyEyeDr. Experience

Glasses are a part of my signature look, but they’re not just a fashion statement, they are a necessity. I didn't always wear glasses. With the help of my then-boyfriend, now husband, I realized in college that I needed them. He overheard me complaining one too many times about not being able to see the chalkboard and gently suggested I make an appointment to see an Optometrist. It wasn't until my senior year of college that I took him up on his offer...and my life changed.

Fast forward to 2019 and I've been rocking glasses for over a decade now. As my style evolved, so did my eyewear collection. I've been known to rock some pretty cool glasses you guys, and funny thing...I've always ordered them from an Optometrist's office. I know there are tons of online retailers to buy frames from now (way more now than when I started wearing them), but there was something about getting them right then and there, after my eye exam, that appealed to me. Instant gratification baby. I was in the need of new glasses when MyEyeDr. reached out to me to come and experience their personalized eye care services in one of their local offices. I immediately scoured the internet, checking out their website and different locations. I was SHOCKED to learn there were 10 locations in Indiana and 3 of them were super close to me on the northside of town. A new place to try on glasses locally? I’m there.

The Process

If you’ve never had your eyes examined by an optometrist, you should. Even if you believe your vision is PERFECT, it’s never a bad idea to get your peepers checked out. Each optometrist office has a cadence in how they “see” you (get what I did there?), but most start with a series of tests to pre-check your vision and establish a baseline for the eye doctor. MyEyeDr. has some pretty cool tech to check your eyes including the auto-refract machine that is a base-line reading for recommending a prescription. They also perform an eye pressure test, which checks the pressure in your eyes. Increased pressure within the eye can be a sign of glaucoma, making this test extremely important to receive.

The Service

OptometristBAE. Can we say that? Probably not, but when you have an exam like mine you will want to. I knew for months that I needed a new prescription. Dr. Hannah Cater, O.D. was quick and efficient. She explained the findings of my pre-test to me in detail. Turns out I have pretty healthy eyes (yay)! Once we went through the pre-test, Dr. Hannah adjusted the lenses on her machine to help find my new prescription. This is where the magic happens. A few short clicks later I was seeing clearer than ever. MyEyeDr. accepts FSA and HSA dollars for all prescription eyewear purchases and eye exams. Many health plans operate under a “use it or lose it” policy, so be sure to book your appointment before the end of the year so you can take full advantage of your benefits!

Frame Selection

Martin couldn’t help but get excited when I told him I loved bold frames. He rushed around the store trying to find the perfect ones for me, and let me tell you...I’m hard to please. I have a wider face, so I tend to gravitate towards wider frames. I didn’t even have to tell Martin I needed a wider frame - he simply looked at my face and got to work. Thinking outside the box, he grabbed me a pair of sunglasses, took the glass out of them and voila! My first pair of frames were decided. By the end of the appointment, I realized my cheeks were sore from laughing so hard. He connected with me, understood my style needs and made the entire experience effortless for me. I cannot say enough about the quality of service I received during my eye appointment. From the moment I walked in, to the second I tried on these glasses, I was in good hands. Listen, there is something about the staff at MyEyeDr.

The End Result

Variety is key. I was impressed by the selection of frames, but more impressed with the entire patient experience. You guys, I went in to buy one pair of glasses and left with two...plus I made an appointment for #HusBae! You know I love it if I’m sending my man! Need another reason? Now through Dec. 31, 2019, frames are buy one, get one 50% off on select brands.

With 10 locations in Indiana, there are options for everyone! Not in Indy? Don’t worry - MyEyeDr. has over 500 locations all over the United States! Now, the real question is...what pair will you walk away with?

Look for an update when my husband has his first appointment!
